Improving Your Community PDF Print E-mail
Amid the power outages and storm cleanup, you may have missed an excellent presentation by Jay Walljasper, author of The Great Neighborhood Bookmcj041203800001.jpg  Jeffersonville Main Street hosted Walljasper as the keynote speaker for their Smart Growth Summit event on Sept. 17.  Even if you missed his slide show illustrating how small changes can make a big impact in a community, you can still access many of his ideas by reading his book.  Walljasper is a proponent of creating walkable, bikeable spaces where people feel safe to interact.  Building a community garden or placing benches help create conversation and interaction between neighbors, something that many reported happened in their neighborhoods for the first time in a long while as a result of the windstorm.  While that sense of community spirit is still fresh in our minds, it may be a good time to look at improving and enjoying the public spaces within our communities.
